Puma & Nike

I have chosen Nike and Puma to monitor the social media activities of. They are both sports brands and uses social media as a marketing tool.

Puma activities on Facebook

The screenshots below show the posts uploaded to Puma’s Facebook profile over the duration of a week:

They hadn’t posted 6 times in a week so the following post was not in the same week:

Nike activities on Facebook

The screenshots below show the posts uploaded to Nike’s Facebook profile over the duration of a week:

They hadn’t posted 6 times in a week so the following post was not in the same week:

Activity Similarities

  • One similarity between the activity on both of the brands Facebook page is that they both post content which has their ambassadors. For example, they both write about what their ambassadors have achieved and events that they are involved in.
  • They both also show their ambassadors and models wearing their products. For example, Nike show Shalane Flanagan wearing a Nike top, and Puma show Cara Delevingne in Puma gear.

Activity Differences

  • One difference is that Nike seem to write longer descriptions within their posts. For example, when talking about their ambassadors achievements Nike have more detailed descriptions.
  • Another difference is that Puma have focused more on products rather than the content being about ambassador achievements. For example, content that includes ambassadors is more just about the fact they are wearing Puma rather than achievements the actual ambassador has.

Nike Improvements

  • One Improvement that I think Nike could make would be to optimise their content better for search engine optimisation. They could do this by adding tags and descriptions to the images that they upload.
  • One other improvement  would be for them to add a description to their  about section and talk about their business and what they do.
  • They could add and animated banner to their page and make their main page look more illustrative including more rich media.

Puma get mentioned by others a lot on social media which can have a positive and negative effect on their reputation. For example, The screenshot below shows a tweet that mentions Puma:

The screenshots below show other times where Puma have been mentioned:

Analytical Statement

Positive:

From looking at the comments within the post below I can see that the person is talking  in a positive manner because they have put more that one question mark which suggests a sense of urgency and that they are excited and keen to find the trainers in the post.

Negative:

The comment in the screenshot below is clearly negative as the word “awful” and they state that “nothing works” which is a sentiment shifter.

Sentiment Improvement

Puma could improve sentiment by replying to negative comments and trying to please people to the the best they can. For example, in the negative comment above they could reply saying their sorry the person feels that way.
